Preparing for Peace Corps in Panama
A few things that I am doing to prepare are reading books and articles about others experiences, speaking Spanish more with friends, and researching as much as I can about life in Panama! A funny thing is that I am reading this book again, Nine Hills to Nambonkaha, which is one woman's story about joining the Peace Corps. How ironic that I am doing the same thing six years later after reading this book a couple years ago. In fact, it was the required book for all first year freshman to read at my school, Winthrop University, and is one of my inspirations to become a Peace Corps Volunteer.
I've listed below a few things that I am reading and doing to get ready.
-Searching for updated packing lists (I found so many through search engines, though I plan to post one too once I finish packing!)
-Reading shorts stories in Spanish (Great Spanish & Latin American Short Stories of 20th Cent.. which is in Spanish and English to learn a few new words too!)
-Studying Spanish flashcards/audit Spanish classes at school to refresh my memory
-Researching different types of hiking gear needed, such as stuff at REI, etc...
